Meadow Fresh Sticker Promotion 2013

Meadow Fresh are doing the collectable stickers again.  Look out for these stickers on their products and send the stickers into school.  Ask all your friends and family to save the stickers for you too.  Last year we got about 23,000 stickers and earned a range of sports gear that the children have been using at lunch times and art supplies that have been used in rooms. The promotion starts on Monday 29 July.

Walking School Bus celebration

Thank you to the parents and people of the community who run our Walking School Buses. This morning everyone celebrated with Milo and Muffins.  Being so cold it was a great morning for Milo.  In term 3 the WSB will continue.   Walking to school is having a very positive impact on the traffic issues we have had in the past.

Enterprising Year 2 Students

Enterprise is the name of the school wide inquiry and the year 2 students are being very enterprising.  Their project is to recycle old t-shirts.  If you are having a clean out these holidays, and find the odd t-shirt that the children could work on, they would appreciate your donation.  There will be people around in the holidays if you want to drop anything in, otherwise next term would be great.

Student Led Conferences - Thank you to the parents, caregivers and whanau that attended the Student Led Conferences over Wednesday and Thursday afternoon and evening. We trust that you found them informative regarding where your child/ren are and what they are achieving. The children are very proud of their work, in their books, on the wall and in their e-portfolios and love to share with you. If you wish to discuss anything further with the teachers please make an appointment through the school office either via Rachel Herriott or Lauren Russell, our lovely office personnel.

Looking Ahead

We are writing to you to explain our enterprise to continue planting native trees on the back field at our school.  This project began three years ago when another group of enterprising students in year 4 had a vision to increase the number of native trees in our school.
We want to restore NZ native trees and plants to increase bird song on our back field.  We have done a lot of study about which are the best trees to plant on our field that will shelter and feed some to our native birds.
We are all feeling excited and inspired about our planting project.  We will be planting in Week 10 from Monday 8 July.  We invite you to help our enterprise so come to Room 13 in old clothes, gumboots and bring a spade.  We will be planting everyday, except Wednesday, between 11.00am and 1.00pm.
In 2017 Elm Park School will be 50 years old.  Imagine what our back field will look like by then!
Kind regards, Room 13 Students

PRESCHOOLERS PRE-REGISTRATION - It would be appreciated if you could forward details of any pre-schoolers intending to enrol at Elm Park School, to assist us with forward planning.

STUDENTS CONTACT DETAILS - It is very important for the safety of your child, that our student contact details are correct.  In cases of emergency it is very upsetting for a student when we are unable to contact a parent either at home, work or via mobile phone.  If you have moved, or changed your work or cell phone number, please email the office or drop by and fill in an ‘Updated Contact Details Form’.  Alternatively if you are unsure if we have the correct details, feel free to email the school office including your child’s name and room number and we will check to make sure we have the correct information.

STUDENT ABSENCES - The law requires regular attendance of pupils.  In the interest of safety, if your child is to be absent, please notify the school as soon as possible either in writing for known absences or by phoning, emailing or texting the school before 8.45 am on the day of absence.  All absences are recorded.  If we do not receive notification, students must be marked Truant on the Ministry of Education database.  If pupils arrive after class has commenced, they must report to the school office to sign the late register.  We need to know that your children are either safe at home or safe at school.  Thank you for your co-operation.  You may either:
Call 577 0070, Email secretary@elmpark.school.nz
Text 021 134 0916. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

LUNCH ROOM – Our lunch room now supplies halal noodles - $3.

Focus on Children

We have been using our e-Learning and ICT equipment in our class for a lot of our work.

We have been using Popplet.  Popplet is a tool that allows users to write ideas down in a graphic organizer format.
It is awesome for brainstorms in writing. www.popplet.com

We have been using Padlet.

Padlet is an internet application that allows people to write their ideas on a wall.  As long as you have the address you are able to add ideas.

Prezi In class we have been writing reports.  We then published our report using prezi. Prezi is a very cool tool to use. www.prezi.com

Google Apps In we have been using google apps.  We have been using the presentation tool as well as docs.

We have been using these apps in class during our Enterprise unit.  We have been sharing our docs and presentations with members of our group.
